Carlos M. Navarro, a staff writer at LADB since 1992, is responsible for planning and writing SourceMex.

Mr. Navarro was raised in Mexico City. He received a B.A. in Communications/Journalism in 1979 from Loyola University in New Orleans. He has more than 15 years experience in the field of business and general journalism. He spent 11 years (1981-1992) as writer/editor for Knight Ridder Financial News Service (formerly Commodity News Service) in Leawood, Kan., where he covered such topics as agriculture and commodities, financial and futures markets, and international trade.

Before his tenure at Knight-Ridder Financial News, Mr. Navarro spent two years (1979-1981) as a reporter for the Laredo Times in Laredo, Texas, where he covered business and financial topics such as transportation, the border retail industry, warehousing, and U.S.-Mexico trade. In addition, he followed matters that were relevant both to the border communities and to U.S.-Mexico relations in general, including immigration and environmental matters.

Mr. Navarro frequently wrote freelance articles on international business in Missouri and Kansas and on business activities at the port of Laredo for the Journal of Commerce. He also wrote on the New Orleans foreign trade zone for Port Record magazine (Port of New Orleans).

Mr. Navarro received an M.B.A. in International Trade in 1980 from Laredo State University (now Texas A&M International University). In addition to his expertise in the general aspects of international trade, he has specialized in specific areas of the export-import industry, such as marketing and financing.

As an officer for the International Trade Council of New Mexico, he continues to support efforts to boost exports and imports for New Mexico-based companies with counterparts in Latin America and other parts of the world.
